Superior Surveillance

From Issue #5 , Page #21

Nokia has just made the surveillance game a lot more interesting. The Nokia Remote Camera isn't just your typical Web cam. It provides a megapixel peek into your home whenever you're away from home.

This wireless home monitoring solution doesn't just detect motion, it takes notes--good ones. It snaps high-quality photos and can even record video clips with sound. Then the system sends those files as an MMS (multimedia messaging service) to your phone or email address. You can even control the camera via text messages or through wireless Bluetooth applications. And as if they needed something else to brag about, Nokia boasts that the Remote Camera works in low-light conditions as well as the outdoors.

The unit should be out now in Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. At press time, the retail price was estimated at 450 EUR (about $575). But don't make room in your home just yet. The sad news is that the system only works with 900/1800GSM frequency, so Nokia says there are no current plans to release it in the U.S.

But so you're not totally empty-handed, the Nokia Observation camera is out now for $450 and boasts a lot of the same features, if you can live without the video and a slightly inferior image.
