It seems that the court is not in favor of the FCC's anti-piracy rules. On Friday, ABC News reported that a U.S. appeals court threw out FCC measures to change and limit how consumers could record and watch TV programs in the future.
I really appreciate that. No one gets between me and my Matlock reruns!
In case you haven't been following, the FCC was hoping that new devices would come equipped with technology that would block you from copying certain digital TV programs. The technology was known as the broadcast flag, and was set to become a requirement in new devices after July 1. No dice, says Congress.
Matlock aside, there is another reason to be happy -- rumor was that if the FCC got its way, you'd be adding a few zeroes onto new TV price tags. Like they aren't high enough!
Entertainment companies want the technology because they don't want viewers copying shows and broadcasting them for all of the Web to see. Don't worry fellas --- keep cranking out junkie films and TV shows and no one will want to see them anyway.
