High-Def TiVo on Its Way

By Rachel Cericola, Jan 10, 2005

TiVo, the Kleenex of digital video recording, is about to get even cooler. Not happy with just pausing and recording live TV, customers are about to get the ultimate viewing experience. The company announced that they're working on a version of their DVR that uses CableCARD, enabling high-definition broadcasts.

That's right: HD in all its glory. That means someday you can watch the flies buzz around the Survivor set, and count the facelifts at the Oscars. Not sure if you have a CableCARD or need one? Here's a quickie review/tutorial.

TiVo's announcement, which is going by the code-name "Tahiti" (I didn't make that up, but it makes me think happy thoughts), will also allow you to access, download and manage broadband content. It's still being worked on though, so you won't see that crystal clear picture until sometime next year.

And sorry, but I couldn't resist the analogy after their recent rant about use of their name. Serves them right for being so visable!
