Fox To Offer Movies Online

By Rachel Cericola, Nov 21, 2005

Everyone knows that box-office receipts aren't what they used to be. Well, if you aren't going to go to the movies, they are going to come to you. ABC News is reporting that Twentieth Century Fox has signed a deal with online content provider Movielink.

Movielink is a joint venture between five Hollywood studios to offer movies over the Web. It hasn't exactly set Hollywood on fire yet, because as much as PC manufacturers like to think so, not that many people want to hover in front of their PC to watch a movie -- unless it's 30,000 feet in the air.

A few Fox movies you won't find: Anything related to Star Wars. George Lucas can be such a tightwad.

While the service has created a lot of buzz, Apple's video iPod has. Over the next few months, expect to see the service tie itself to the tiny device as well as other popular portables -- and even the Xbox 360.
