Panasonic Begins Blu-ray Production

By Rachel Cericola, Dec 5, 2005

The Blu-ray/HD-DVD war is almost as annoying as the whole "less filling/tastes great" debate. The loser? Me, you and every other consumer.

Geek.com says that Panasonic has developed a Blu-ray chipset, and now they are announcing that they will begin producing 50GB Blu-ray discs. That's a whole lot of high-def movies and other video content, you know.

The new discs, called BD-ROM, are dual-layer, which doubles the capacity of the single-layer discs. Seems simple enough, right? It's a little more impressive when you consider that current DVDs hold about 8.5GB.

Expect HD DVD recorders to be a big buzz in 2006.
